Sponsorship helps advance youth and female participation in growing sport and supports world-class event in Cincinnati community

CINCINNATI, Oct. 28, 2015 – This weekend, cyclists from around the tri-state region and across the country are descending on the Cincinnati area to compete in cyclo-cross races. For the second consecutive year, Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A. is powering the Cincinnati International Cyclo-Cross Festival.

Cyclo-cross is a form of bicycle racing that combines different terrains, obstacles and steep hills. The Cincinnati International Cyclo-Cross Festival from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1 encompasses multiple events, including races for youth and teenage cyclists, which provide them access to the sport of competitive cycling, and the Pan-American Continental Championships, one of the largest cycling events in the United States. Races on Saturday take place at Kingswood Park in Deerfield Township, Ohio, and Sunday events will be held at Devou Park in Covington, Ky.

The Pan-American Continental Championships includes a women’s junior U23 category, the first-ever young female group to be recognized by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) governing body for a U.S. cyclo-cross race. This official endorsement allows younger women to earn global racing points in pursuit of professional level and world champion status. This internationally-recognized category has been attracting young females to participate in the growing sport of cyclo-cross.

“Toyota is a strong supporter of women’s initiatives, and the Cincinnati International Cyclo-Cross Festival has become a tremendous opportunity to give women equal opportunity as men in athletic competition,” said Scott Wracher, General Manager of the TMS Cincinnati sales region. “Additionally, Toyota is helping to make this area home to a world-class event, which is important to the community of our regional sales office.”

The annual title sponsorship of the Cincinnati International Cyclo-Cross Festival is one of many initiatives to which Toyota contributes dollars in support of the Cincinnati community.

Cincy3 Weekend to Host Pan American Continental Championship on Nov 2nd, 2014 at Devou Park

Oct 31 – Nov 2, 2014 | How many American cyclocross fans have seen the European Continental Cyclocross Champion’s jersey on Helen Wyman and wondered – if there’s a Continental Championship race in Europe, why isn’t there a Continental Championships over here?  After next season that will no longer be a question – the first-ever Pan-American Continental Championships will be held in Covington, Kentucky’s Devou Park as the Sunday event of the November Cincy3 weekend!

The successful execution of last year’s World Cyclocross Championships in Louisville, KY, USA not only once and for all legitimized the American scene to the World, but showed the UCI how important the U.S. was to the overall growth of the sport worldwide.  The growth of the sport in the U.S. has no parallel currently in any other country on the planet, so the fact that only 2 countries actively participate in the sport in North and South America did not dissuade the UCI from approving the proposal of the organizing committee from Cincinnati.  Invitations will go out to all Pan-Am Confederation member countries, and assistance may be provided to developing countries on housing and possibly equipment.

dv

Now in its 11th year, the Cincy3 Cyclocross Festival is one of 4 UCI Class 1 cyclocross weekends next year in the extremely strong Midwest region.  What began as a one-day UCI event at Fairfield’s Harbin Park with 100 total riders – the weekend has now grown from 1 to 3 days, with a max rider count at over 600 racers in a day.  It features 3 distinct and popular venues for racing.  Kingswood Park (formerly golf course) is Saturday’s Class 1 venue, possibly best known for hosting the World Championships “warm-up” race last January won by Niels Albert and Katerina Nash.   Kingswood also serves as the practice home of Cincinnati’s “Lionhearts” junior race team.  Covington, Kentucky’s Devou Park, with its stunning views of downtown Cincinnati and massive 700 acres, serves as a grand locale for such a significant event as the first-ever Continental Championship.

Between the Harbin Park Class 2 event on Friday, the Kings Class 1 night race on Saturday, and Sunday’s Continental Championships at Devou Park – more than twice as many UCI points will go out in Cincinnati than in any other weekend on next year’s U.S. ProCX calendar!  One noteworthy fact is that the Continental Championships is not for elite men; only for elite women, U23 and Junior 17-18 men.  Cincy promoters have worked through this by requesting a Class 2 men’s event to add to the Continental Championships schedule on Sunday.   Additionally, a women’s junior U23 category was added to the European Championships last year for the first time, and the organizers in Cincy plan on running that category in the Pan-American event as well.

hh

Friday, October 31 Cincy3 Harbin Park (C2)
Saturday, November 1 Cincy3 Kings After Dark (C1)
Sunday, November 2 Cincy3 Devou Park (CC + C2 Men)

Pan American Continental Championship Categories (separate start times):

-Elite Women
-U23 Men
-U23 Women
-17-18 Men

More information will be posted in the coming year, with full technical manual available on www.cincycx.com by mid-September.
